I come from where the rivers meet the sea That’s part of why I’m so wild and fancy free -Jimmy Buffett “Floridays” Among my lifelist trips is a kayak journey through Everglades National Park, the swampy and massive sponge of biodiversity in southwest Florida. I remember as a child boarding a small motor boat, the [...]

I’ve written before about the joy of paddling a kayak through a downtown canyon, and National Geographic Adventure a few days ago listed what they believe are the best North American cities to paddle in: San Francisco Chicago Washington, D.C. Pittsburgh Portland, Maine Boston New York City Portland, Oregon Seattle Toronto I’ve written before to [...]

The best American summer holiday is upon us, and wherever you are I’m hoping the sun’s out, temperatures soar, the grill’s cookin’ and your best friends and family are around. Now let’s head for the ski slopes. I’m not kidding when I say we may have stumbled upon the best kickass idea this side of [...]

Take a breath and watch. [...]

He wore sporty sunglasses, a gray ballcap turned backwards and an Adidas soccer jersey while a sharp, bearded chin contained a constant smile. He married his soul mate [...]

Holy s***! I about fell out of my seat watching kayaker Pedro Olivia commit suicide set the world record by tumbling down Belo Salto in Brazil, a 127-foot drop. I dare anyone to breathe when they see Olivia’s kayak turn over so he lands at the base practically on his head. He broke the previous record [...]

Sunday was one of the most overwhelming days during three decades of living. In one day, my fiance, Alison, and I moved closer to purchasing our first house only to discover some questionable practices by the builder, then we met with our wedding coordinator/caterer for a final run-thru of the Big Day. STRESS!!! And if [...]

We’re familiar now with how outdoor companies and retail store advertisements like to cultivate popular images, like the canoeist or kayaker dipping paddles in a still lake, evergreens towering above the shoreline. So peace and serene, isn’t it? Yet, while I consider the possibility of kayaking the backwaters of Voyaguers National Park in Minnesota one [...]
