A message from Dave Pidgeon, founder of Compass Points Media
I learned a long time ago that one person cannot do it all. You can try. Some days you will succeed, but there will be an abundance of days when you need help.
At Compass Points, I figure why should a man walk by himself when he can share the experience with his friends?
All of this is to say that Compass Points is open to guest writers. The benefits are many both for Compass Points and the guest writer — covering areas I can’t travel to and topics I know little about, more traffic for your blog/website and so on. Compass Points reaches hundreds of readers a day and averages more than 5,000 visitors a month.
Here are the categories I feature at Compass Points:
- SEE THIS – A category that lists three ways adventurers can experience a specific location. Each one much include a child-friendly day hike, a moderate to strenuous day hike and one backpacking trip. Great locations would include national parks, national forests, national monuments or a large region that encompasses several state parks, trails and so on.
- YOUR CITY – Get reader inside the urban landscape into the wilds that exist beyond city limits. Aim at three activities, two of which must be hiking related. Other activities could include cycling, kayaking, climbing and so on. At least one activity should be child-friendly, while the other two can be as moderate or strenuous as you choose.
- WALK THIS WAY – You’re the expert. Readers jump on the Internet looking for expert advice and know-how to help them solve problems, make them healthier, smarter and so on. Be the expert. Tell readers about a particular skill or training exercise that can help them elevate their hiking and backpacking experience.
- MY DIRECTION – Probably the most popular choice. MY DIRECTION provides a first-person view of the wilderness experience. Tell readers a story about your own experience in the woods.
Please, no gear reviews. And as much as I’d would like to, my budget is limited to about zero dollars, so I can’t pay. Believe me, I’m trying to build revenue. Trying. Diligently.
How can you submit a story? Here’s the way:
- Submit a query to Compass Points editor Dave Pidgeon at davepidgeon@compasspointsmedia.com. Please include with your story idea a link to your blog/website and some biographical information.
- We’ll let you know if it’s accepted, and please keep the story to 500 words or less.
- Every story must be accompanied by at least one horizontal photo and one vertical photo with attribution and caption information. If a person is featured, they must be wearing proper attire for the elements. No blue jeans or cotton.
That’s it! Pretty simple. We think this has all kinds of potential, helping to build a community of outdoor adventure writers and bloggers, and ultimately help readers find new places to explore, and to do so safely and skillfully.
Find Your Direction!
Dave
