Compass Points TV

While this may not be the BBC’s Planet Earth in full HD on an IMAX screen, we’re still proud of our little project known as Compass Points TV because it serves two purposes:

  • We noticed a scarcity of quality outdoor adventure video on the Internet. Oh, there’s lots of stuff out there, but we wanted to bring something that would be not only informative but bring the mud-on-the-boots, sun-in-our-eyes, cozy-in-our-sleeping-bag awesomeness. After searching and searching for those kinds of vids, we decided to make a few videos ourselves.
  • We have a camera and we reallyreallyreallyreally wanted to take it hiking with us.

Compass Points TV comes to you via YouTube with a series of segments designed to give you a look at some of the best trails we know, and to hopefully get you inspired to see it for yourself.

One thing we at Compass Points know for sure, watching a video about a trail can never replace the experience of actually hiking it, but we hope Compass Points TV helps you “find your direction.”

WAYPOINTS

The filming for all these Compass Points TV episodes left us with a lot of material. Rather than let these .MOV files sit for eternity in a 2-inch-by-3-inch external harddrive, which looks awesome in tuxedo black, we put together some bonus features we hope viewers enjoy.

BASE CAMP

Take a quick tour of where Compass Points makes its headquarters – the basement of a 17-year-old house in Lancaster County, Pa. While that sounds mildly creepy, the dynamic team of Alison and Dave Pidgeon – the slightly over optimistic individuals behind Compass Points, splashed some blue color on the walls, gave themselves arthritis by assembling IKEA furniture, jammed all their hiking and adventure gear into a few armoires and BOOM!, they made an adventure lounge/gear closet.

You’ve inspired me. I haven’t been to the Del.Water Gap in years even though I live in NJ. Maybe next weekend!
thanks.
