The Smokies may have their blue haze and Acadia its ancient, rocky coast. But Shenandoah National Park in northern Virginia has its reputation, too – lazy vistas, black bears, a lengthy stretch of the Appalachian Trail, all a mere 90 minutes from Washington, D.C.
What makes Shenandoah wild, however, is its bountiful trails to waterfalls. And no finer day hike to Shenandoah’s waterfalls exist than the 7.6-mile loop into Cedar Run and Whiteoak Canyon.
