You have to keep one room in your house where you can be unapologetically yourself.
Call it the “Man Cave” or a “Sun Porch” or whatever.
For me, the central hub for Compass Points is located in our refinished basement, and last weekend my wife, the Blue-Eyed Wonder, and I repainted it, refurbished it and created an adventure travel lair.
Flippin’ awesome.
We wanted a place that could function as a writing station, a video editing studio, a travel library and walk-in gear closet. We wanted the place to inspire friends and guests to think about where they want to travel. And we wanted it to serve as the starting point for all our travels, backpacks and other adventures.
We gave it a name – Base Camp.
Come check out this special edition of Compass Points TV where we take you on a brief tour of Base Camp, and we hope this will inspire you to create an adventure lair of your own.

Thanks Dan! How are plans for the PCT coming along?
Great video! Your setup is great and the production quality of your video is awesome.
I’ve got a bit of space so I’m going to setup a gear closet or “cupboard” as we know them in Australia. The basement is a great feature of American homes. The space is so versatile. It’s a pity that few homes in Australia have basements.
Keep up the great work. I’ll be a regular watcher of your videos.
