Hey Pointers! A happy holidays to you!

We’re jacked about the snowfall Pennsylvania received last week, a record-setting December storm that left 12 to 20 inches of snow in our region. Took the MSR Denali Ascents out to Muddy Run Park in southern Lancaster County, Pa., to scope out the snowscapes and the deer herds. Perfect half day of snowshoeing.

Compass Points highly recommends the MSR Denali Ascents. I’ve used them from Delaware Water Gap to New Hampshire. MSR is calling them the “Classics” now instead of the “Ascents,” but the performance should be the same. Love the crampon around the outer rim of the shoes, which provides superior grip on any terrain. And I praise MSR for making these out of hard plastic, which has less of a chance of ripping compared to other snowshoes made of synthetic webbing.

Posting will be light at Compass Points this week as we make our way to Christmas. Family, last-minute shopping, house cleaning, cooking, over-caffeinated and over-stimulated.

But if there’s news from the trails or if I have a spark of inspiration (and a little time), I’ll send out a CP post or two. If you’re still searching for gift ideas, I have a list here.

Regular posting will resume Monday, December 28.
